Aquanaut
The younger, sportier sister
The Aquanaut translates the Nautilus idea into a more contemporary design language: a rounded octagon, a dial with a relief-like checkerboard pattern, and a Tropical rubber strap that ages remarkably well.
The evolution of the Aquanaut
Presented in 1997, the Aquanaut with Ref. 5060A targeted a younger audience than the Nautilus. In place of an integrated metal bracelet it wore a composite rubber strap — unusual at the time for a manufacture of this standing.
The dial's embossed checkerboard pattern echoes the texture of the strap — a design idea that has carried the line ever since.
In 2018 the line expanded with the Ref. 5168G in white gold at 42.2 millimetres. The version with a khaki-green dial became one of the most sought-after executions.
The Aquanaut Luce created a distinct ladies' line, while the Ref. 5968 introduced a flyback chronograph within the family.

Key reference numbers at a glance
What to look for when buying
- 01
The Aquanaut is somewhat more accessible than the Nautilus, but has caught up sharply in recent years. White gold references are especially sought after.
- 02
The rubber strap wears well but shows visible ageing at the clasp. A replacement strap is available and does not affect value, provided the original is included.
- 03
Watch the dial closely: the checkerboard pattern is embossed, not printed. On counterfeits this detail is frequently the weak point.
- 04
Here too, obtain the Extract from the Archives, particularly for executions with an unusual dial colour.
