Ranger

Field navigation, distilled into a watch

The Ranger is Tudor's answer to the Explorer: bold numerals, a matte dial, no date. A watch reduced entirely to legibility.

History

The evolution of the Ranger

During the 1960s Tudor sold Oyster Prince models under the name Ranger, with oversized printed numerals at 3, 6, 9 and 12.

The Ranger accompanied the British North Greenland Expedition and was positioned as a rugged tool watch.

In 2014 the name returned with a Heritage Ranger at 41 mm, fitted with an ETA movement and beige luminous elements.

The current Ranger arrived in 2022 at 39 mm with the in-house calibre MT5402, COSC certification and 70 hours of power reserve.

What to look for when buying

  1. 01

Original vintage Rangers with untouched dials are rare to find; service dials are common.

  2. 02

The current 39 mm reference is the most practical variant and trades well in the market.

  3. 03

The absence of a date and the matte dial make the watch resistant to visible signs of ageing.
