Navitimer

The slide rule on the wrist

The Navitimer is the chronograph pilots once used to calculate climb rates, fuel consumption and conversions in the cockpit. Its slide-rule bezel remains functional to this day.

History

The evolution of the Navitimer

In 1952 Breitling developed the Navitimer as an evolution of the 1942 Chronomat, whose slide rule now migrated onto a rotating bezel.

The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association adopted it as the association's official watch; early dials bear its winged logo.

In 1962 a Navitimer Cosmonaute with 24-hour display flew into space aboard Aurora 7 with Scott Carpenter.

In 1969 the line gained an automatic movement with the Chronomatic calibre 11, its crown on the left side. Since 2009 the Navitimer has run on the in-house calibre B01.
